Recognize the Causes of Rotten Teeth and How to Treat It

Lack of awareness in maintaining dental hygiene makes a person prone to rotten teeth. This condition certainly should not be underestimated, because if left untreated, rotten teeth are at risk of causing a variety of more serious complications. Rotten teeth not only occur in adults, this disease can also occur in children. So you know about the causes, trigger factors, and how to treat rotten teeth, see the following explanation.

These Are Things That Can Cause Tooth Decay

Plaque that sticks to teeth contains bacteria. When mixed with sugar from the food we consume, bacteria produce acids. It is this acid that will gnaw your teeth that cause deer teeth and eventually rot. Some factors that can trigger tooth decay are:

1. Rarely brush your teeth

Less regular or rarely brushing your teeth is the main trigger for rotten teeth. The longer the plaque sticks to the teeth, the acid produced by bacteria will increasingly damage and erode the teeth. Therefore, in order to keep teeth clean and free of dental plaque, make it a habit to brush your teeth with toothpaste at least twice a day for approximately 2 minutes.

2. Too much intake of sweet and sour

Too much food or drinks that contain sugar or carbohydrates can lead to tooth decay. Likewise with consuming too much acidic drinks, such as soft drinks and juices. This is because foods and drinks that are too sweet and sour can erode the tooth enamel.

3. Lack of saliva

One function of saliva is to clean teeth from plaque and bacteria. Therefore, if your salivary glands cannot produce enough saliva, the risk of rotten teeth will increase.

4. Flouride deficiency

Fluoride is a natural mineral that works to strengthen tooth enamel. So if you brush your teeth without using toothpaste that contains fluoride, then it will be useless because the risk of experiencing tooth decay still exists.

5. Drink bottled milk while lying down

In children and babies who already have teeth, the habit of drinking bottled milk while lying down can increase the risk of tooth decay. This is because milk that stagnates around your baby's teeth without being cleaned for a long time will be converted by bacteria into acidic substances which will damage his teeth.

How to treat tooth decay

Treatment of rotten teeth varies according to their severity. If tooth decay is still at an initial level, the doctor will take fluoride treatment to strengthen the teeth. However, if rotten teeth have reached an advanced or moderate level, then treatment is not enough with fluoride treatment alone. The doctor will remove the rotten part of the tooth, then put a crown on the tooth. Meanwhile, if tooth decay is severe and cannot be repaired again, then treatment is done by tooth extraction. It aims to remove infected nerves and pulp. If the patient is an adult, the doctor will replace the missing teeth with dentures. Rotten tooth handling can cost you a lot of money, especially if the condition is already severe. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, including routine brushing with a paste containing fluoride. One more important thing that you should never forget is to check your dental health to the dentist every 6 months. This is highly recommended as an anticipatory step so that you do not experience a variety of dental diseases, especially rotten teeth.
